What It Means to Be a Pathfinder
When you hear the word pathfinder, what comes to mind?
Maybe you picture pioneers heading into unknown territory, or a guide helping others navigate a winding trail through the woods. At its heart, a pathfinder is someone willing to go first, someone who clears a way so others don’t have to walk alone.
For our family, and now through Pathfinder Press, that word has come to mean something even deeper: walking by faith, leading with courage, and helping others find their way in a world that often feels loud, rushed, and confusing.
A Path for Families
Being a pathfinder doesn’t mean we have it all figured out. Honestly? Most days, we don’t. (Can I get an AMEN?)
What it does mean is that we trust the One who does.
We know many families feel this tension every day:
- Are we teaching our kids what truly matters?
- Are we preparing them well for what’s ahead?
- Are we pointing them to Jesus in everyday moments?
These are big questions, but God’s Word reminds us again and again that He promises to direct our steps one faithful step at a time. We don’t have to see the whole path. We just have to keep walking.
Why It Matters for Storytelling
So what does being a pathfinder have to do with books and stories?
Everything!

Stories help light the path.
- They teach timeless truths in simple ways children can understand.
- They help us see the world through the lens of faith, hope, and wonder.
- They pass down values that last far longer than trends and headlines.
We believe that every family has stories worth telling, both the big adventures and the ordinary, everyday moments. Stories that point children back to what is good, true, and beautiful. Stories that remind us of God’s faithfulness through every twist, turn, and unexpected detour.
The Trail We’re Walking Together
Years ago, we named our homeschool Pathfinder Academy because we wanted to raise children who aren’t afraid to take the road less traveled… kids who seek wisdom, love adventure, and trust God to guide their steps.
That same heart is why we chose Pathfinder Press as our publishing name.

We want families to know they’re not alone.
Whether you’re simply trying to choose good books for your kids, feeling a nudge to write a story of your own, or hoping to build a home where faith and creativity grow side by side, you’re already walking the path.
You’re a pathfinder, too.
Encouragement for Fellow Pathfinders
No one walks this road perfectly.
Some days feel like sunny trails with clear views; other days feel muddy, slow, and full of unexpected potholes (And, yes—there’s a real mud-and-potholes story where God showed up in a big way! Someday, I’ll share it.)
Every small step you take to fill your home with truth and beauty matters more than you realize.
Every bedtime story. Every shared Bible verse. Every idea scribbled in a notebook.
It all adds up. It all lights the way for those who follow.
So here’s our gentle reminder today:
Keep going. Keep walking in faith. Keep telling stories that matter.
What’s a Story That Has Inspired Your Family?
We’d love to hear from you. What books, Bible stories, or family moments have shaped your home and encouraged your faith?
Share in the comments so we can encourage one another.
And if your family has ever dreamed of creating a story of your own, stay close. We’re working on simple, approachable resources to help families turn their ideas into books that bless others.
Together, let’s be pathfinders for our children and for the generations to come.
