What This Book Is Not (And What We Hope It Is)
There are a lot of children’s books out there.
Some are loud, some are rushed, and some feel more like a marketing message than a story.
As I created this book, I thought carefully about the kind of stories I want filling our own home, because as a homeschooling mom, I know books shape more than reading skills. They shape imagination, conversations, family culture, and even the way children begin to see the world.
I often had the question in the back of my mind:
What kind of experience do I want families to have when they open these pages together?
Here’s where I landed.
1. This Book Is Not Preachy
It is written to invite conversation.
I didn’t want to create a book that talks at children.
As parents, we know some of the most meaningful moments happen after the story is over, when a child asks a thoughtful question at bedtime or brings up something again the next morning over breakfast.
My hope is that this story creates space for those kinds of moments. Not forced lessons, not heavy-handed messaging... just meaningful conversations that families can walk through together.
And no… it’s not a lecture disguised as a children’s book, because kids can usually spot that from a mile away.
2. This Book Is Not Flashy
It is calm, warm, and inviting.
Children today are surrounded by noise... bright screens, fast-paced entertainment, constant stimulation.
I wanted this book to feel different. More like curling up on the couch with a blanket and reading together slowly.

The kind of book that lets children breathe, wonder, and settle into the story instead of being overwhelmed by it.
It's not covered in glitter and chaos. Just cozy enough for bedtime reading.
3. This Book Is Not Rushed
It is professionally designed with care.
We paid attention to the details because details matter.
The layout. The pacing. The flow of the pages. The print quality.
In fact, we’re launching this book nearly a year after I first found our illustrator. That's not to say our whole process was perfect by any means, but meaningful stories do take time.
Perfection isn't actually the goal, but we believe beautiful things created with excellence can communicate love and intentionality.
4. This Book Is Not Artificially Assembled
It is beautifully illustrated by a real artist.
Every illustration was created thoughtfully and intentionally... not clipped together, not rushed, not generated in seconds.

There’s something deeply human about handmade art, especially in children’s books. You can feel the heart behind it.
In a world increasingly filled with artificial everything, I wanted this book to feel personal and genuine.
5. This Book Is Not Cynical or Sarcastic
It is hopeful, sincere, and rooted in wonder.
It feels like so much of children’s entertainment today leans heavily on sarcasm, eye-rolling humor, or making parents look foolish.
But childhood is already fleeting enough.
I wanted this story to feel gentle without being shallow, honest without being harsh. A story that leaves children feeling encouraged instead of jaded.
I still believe goodness, beauty, courage, and kindness should be what draws children to a story, and I think children are hungry for stories that lean into that, too.
6. This Book Is Not Designed to Replace Parents
It is meant to support families.
Stories should never try to push parents aside or undermine their role.
Instead, I hope this book becomes a tool families can use together, a starting point for conversations, connection, and shared moments.
At Pathfinder Press, we believe some of the best learning happens side-by-side on the couch, around the dinner table, or during bedtime stories.
That’s the kind of storytelling we want to create.
7. This Book Is Not Disposable
It is meant to become part of your family rhythm.
Some books are read once and forgotten while others quietly become part of family memory.
We all have the bedtime favorite, the “read it again” book, the one younger siblings eventually inherit. Those are the stories we love most.

That’s the kind of book I hoped to make… not perfect, not flashy, not trying to impress everyone.
Just meaningful storytelling created with warmth, purpose, and families in mind, because these kinds of stories really do matter.
We believe the stories filling our homes shape the hearts growing inside them.
If this sounds like the kind of story you want in your home too, you can explore the book here.
And truly, thank you for supporting thoughtful, family-centered storytelling. It means more than you know.
