Why Children's Book Reviews Matter More Than You Think
Have you ever finished a book, enjoyed it, and then moved on with your day without leaving a review?
Most of us have.
In fact, until I became an author myself, I had no idea how much those reviews mattered.
As a reader, a review feels like a small thing, but as an author, I’ve learned it’s one of the most meaningful gifts a reader can give.
A review helps a book reach new families. It helps parents make informed decisions. It encourages authors who have poured their hearts into their work. And it only takes a few minutes.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your review really matters, the short answer is: yes, it absolutely does.
Reviews help books reach new families, encourage authors, and make it easier for parents to discover stories that align with their values.
Reviews Help Other Families
One of the things I hear most often from parents is how careful they are about the books they bring into their homes. They are tired of hidden agendas, the not-so-subtle attempts to undermine biblical values, and stories that seem more interested in celebrating sass than cultivating character.
Parents and grandparents who are intentionally building a home library want to know what they’re getting before they make a purchase. That’s where reviews become so valuable.
When you leave a review, you’re helping another family make a confident decision. You’re sharing your real-life experience with a book and offering reassurance that no marketing copy can provide.
After all, most of us trust recommendations from other families far more taht we trust advertisements.
Reviews Help Books Get Found
Reviews don’t just help readers, they also help books.
Whether we like it or not, online marketplaces pay attention to reviews. Amazon uses them as one signal that a book is worth showing to more shoppers. While we’re continuing to build our own shop here at Pathfinder Press, we also moake our books available on Amazon because that’s where many families discover new titles.
Every review helps increase visibility. It gives a book a better chance of being found by families who may never have heard of it otherwise.

For independent authors and small publishers, that support means more than you might realize. We don't have massive marketing budgets or large publishing teams behind us. Most often, growth happens through personal recommendations, word of mouth, and readers who take a few moments to share their thoughts.
And speaking of recommendations, did you know that you can also request books at your local library or bookstore? It’s another simple way to help wholesome, family-friendly stories find their way into more homes and communities.
Your Review Doesn't Need to Be Fancy
Many people hesitate to leave a review because they think it needs to sound like a middle-school book report.
But I have good news! That’s not what reviews are for. Just a few honest sentences about your experience with the book are more than enough… and incredibly helpful.
Please hear me on this one: a review doesn’t need to be paragraphs long. The simplest one-liner will do.
Here are a few examples:
- "My kids asked to read it again as soon as we finished."
- "Beautiful illustrations and a great conversation starter."
- “Perfect for homeschool families who love nature-studies”
- “A gentle story with a meaningful message.”
Just one or two sentences goes a long way.

A Small Act That Makes a Big Difference
Thank you for being here and supporting our mission at Pathfinder Press.
One review may not seem like much, but it's one of the simplest ways you can help a book reach another family. Reviews help parents discover books that align with their values, encourage independent creators, and spread messages that point children toward truth, beauty, and purpose.
If you've read Made to Fly Free, I'd be truly grateful if you'd take a few minutes to leave a review.
Together, we can help more families discover stories that encourage meaningful conversations and remind children that they were made with purpose.
